    What happened to KVKBD?

    Hello!

I'm asking for an on-screen keyboard. So far I had been using KVKBD but it just won't show up in muon package manager. KAccessibility once depended on it, but now, it can do without a virtual keyboard

So why was it thrown out? What alternatives do you recommend?

So far I tested that plasma-widget which just does not react to mouse clicks other than steeling the focus of the application, I want to type to. In addition, it's stuck to the desktop and cannot overlay any application window. This is a total fail!

Inside KDE I got xvkbd ... this almost does the job, but it just looks ugly and it won't minimize to tray as kvkbd would.

An interesting question on it's own is, how to log in, using a virtual keyboard?

KDE allows to activate plasmawidgets on the screensaver ... very nice idea, but so far I could not get a single keystroke out of that widget. The configuration is a joke by itself: I can assign a key-stroke to it

On another computer with Gnome/Ubuntu I saw lightdm just yesterday displaying a virtual keyboard ... but on my Kubuntu lightdm just has no button/option, to activate it?

maybe it doesn't build anymore? The code has not been updated since 2010, and that was patches added. The last actual release of the code was 2009.

try onboard it seams ok .
supposedly it can be used in lightdm ,,,,,but all instructions I have triped across have been for lightdm-gtk-greeter not lightdm-kde-greeter.

Onboard looks really promissing, to fill the gap. Thank you for the tipp.

Well OK, now, that there is an alternative, it's OK to retire good old KVKBD if it's not maintained anymore. It would just have been nice, to include a new default in KDE.

I guess I'll have to dig deeper into the lightdm config and the differences of certain greeters.

What about the plasma widget enabled lockscreen / screensaver? This should be pure KDE, right? In Onboard there is a configuration: "Show to unlock screen" ... but it does not work for me ... maybe a bug?
