I was able to run off the DVD and driver manager installed the WiFi. After installation no WiFi and driver manager is broken. I never got the wired to work. My DVD will no longer eject.

I am using my Kindle fire to download Ubuntu packages to do a manual it install. The broadcom sta
driver requires 17 packages to be installed! I have an external drive but the 14.04.5 DVD is in the notebooks stuck drive. I have no other choice than to manually download, copy and install the packages. Normally I would use discover to update so I don't make any mistakes. With no internet and a stuck DVD drive then there is no other way. Strange that the installer could use the WIFI but the installed version can't. I got it down to 6dependancys. No screwdriver. I might try using my external USB drive and kindle to download then burn a new DVD of trusty version 5. I will just reinstall invade I messed up something trying the manual WIFI install. I should be able to install the driver by remounting the DVD to /mnt/CDROM which is the path where Ubuntu drivers looks after you select the CDROM in the repos list. I can't transfer the iso file from my kindle to my laptop. It has Bluetooth but can't communicate with my notebook. It is low on charge, so I will fully charge it and try again. How big is the file? Turns out the file wasn't downloading. I have the silk web browser downloading it now. It will take all day. Only 2% after 20 minutes and I have a very fast internet connection. There must be a bottle neck someplace. Maybe someone needs to check the Ubuntu severs to make sure get Kubuntu is working properly? Of course there are probably a few switching systems and different kinds of computers between me and the Ubuntu servers. Most people don't realise this but there all a lot computers around than just desktop, notebooks, netbooks or severs.Just to remind users and devs that Ubuntu and its flavors have a long way to go to be as usr friendly as they should be.

A package header error, or perhaps a corrupted apt list.
One possible fix this problem:
1. Open terminal
2. Enter the following commands one by one:
sudo rm /var/lib/apt/lists/* -vf
sudo apt-get update
