    new user can't login

I created a new user account with a home directory, password and group (group name same as the username), kdm doesn't indicate an error with the username or password, it simply fails to start a session and returns to the login screen.

I can su into the new account in a terminal, and I am able to ssh into this account from another machine but can't start a normal kubuntu (gui) session for this user on the local machine. Just can't start a gui session.

edit: no problem logging in with my original (administrator) user account.

The new user - let's call him dummy.

So all files in /home/dummy are dummy:dummy.

      .Xauthority is 600
      .Xdefaults is 644
