I'm having the same problem that I had described here, but this time with 14.4.
In short, switching on the pc my workspace freezes as soon as the first frame is displayed; I can access the terminal (Ctrl+Alt+F1) and during the freeze (lasting some minutes) some commands don't work, such as ls when performed in the home directory. No abnormal usage (cpu, mem, disk) happens during the freeze, so it might be waiting for a timeout.
But I've made an interesting discovery: the freeze only occurs when an internet connection is available. If I switch the pc on with no ethernet cable, there is no freeze at all.
Any ideas?
