    Ralink RT5390 wifi not working

Got a Asus with Intel i3 laptop and removed Windows 8. Installed Kubuntu 14.04 and wifi does not work.
    I have a Ralink RT5390 wifi 802.11n 1T/1R PCIe.
    Thanks.

    Welcome aboard, bullfluga!

When you were installing Kubuntu, did it recognize the wifi networks around you, and give you the chance to connect to one?

No. Kubuntu saw the Ralink but when I clicked to select it, it would not allow me to enter a password or continue the installation further unless I deselected it.

        Code:
02:00.0 Network controller: Ralink corp. RT5390 Wireless 802.11n 1T/1R PCIe
Subsystem: Hewlett-Packard Company U98Z077.00 Half-size Mini PCIe Card
                Kernel driver in use: rt2800pci
        works fine @hear
        do a
        Code:
        lspci -k
and see if the same kernel driver is in use.
if yes ,,,,,,,,,,,look to the keybord or on the case some where for a on/off switch ,,,,,,,,,@hear it is the F12 key (it has a symbol of an antenna on it and a LED that is orange when off and blue when on) but you may have a switch on the case .

        if you do a
        Code:
        iwlist scan
        do you see AP's ?

I tried to turn on the wifi by pushing Fn + F2 (has wifi symbol) on the keyboard and nothing happened.

Show the output of lspci and lsmod.

Now it works!! I tried repeatedly hitting Fn+F2 and suddenly my wifi woke up from its deep slumber!
Thank you for all your patience and help!

                      Update: wifi working fine!

                            Fantastic!!

On one of my previous laptops, its wifi switch was on its FRONT EDGE--and it was continually getting accidentally moved. I remember one time--before I realized what had happened--being like, WTF?!! why did I just lose my connection?!!

LOL as I said mine is the F12 key ,,,,,,,,,,,,well Yakuake installs with the hot key of F12 ,,,,, and I use Yakuake a lot .

that made for a lot of ,,,,,,,,,,, ?? ,, ?? where did the net go ? O heck the wifi switch is orange
So now on a new install and after adding Yakuake I immediately change the hot key to F1
