    USB3 Problems?

    Hello dear fellows.

I've been having some problems lately with two external usb 3.0 drives.

I don't have any other usb3 ready computer to debug a usb3 port problem but when i attach those drives to normal usb 2 ports i don't have any errors.

I've already checked one of the hardrives for badblocks and problems only appear when connected to the usb3 port.

    Regards.

Good point to check the USB(3) ports.

So far here USB3 shows up as such and without problems.

mmmm... my USB 3.0 port isn't giving me any problems. For a period of time I connected a USB 3.0 350Gb external HD and used btrfs to add it to my /home subvolume. (I am using the btrfs not ext4) It worked like a charm and was very fast.

        Hi,

Maybe my port has gone bad.
This laptop has already been sent two times to the factory with mobo problems. Bad Bad Asus!

Im using those two disks formated with vfat and they are normally attached to the big LG TV.

I will format one of them with ext4 and see if the problem persists. BTW both are 2.5", GPT enabled and one is 512GB and the other is 1TB

I'll keep this post open for some more days to see if someone has problems

          Hi again.

After formating one of the disks to ext[2,4] there are no problems reading it in the usb3 port.

Even if it is a limitation of vfat filesystems it works fine when connected to a usb2 port.

          Weird.

          regards.

Ah, did you recently connect this disk to a Vista or newer Windows computer?
Because they regularly find and are able to fix small problems on an MS file system.
Those problems show up in Linux by slowing down access but I haven't found a Linux utility that can scan for and fix these.

              Hi Teunis.

Will try to attach it to a Windows 7 KVM Instance. Both were formated in Linux and are large hard drives.
Did not try with exfat ( new ms fat system ) but the problem with that is that writing to exfat is time consuming and my Corei3 spikes a lot.

              regards.
