I just upgraded, and now my network is constantly in use

Just as the title says. I'm constantly running anywhere from 80 to 120 kb/s even with all relevant programs closed and dropbox/ubuntu one paused. This is a problem for me as I'm running on dorm internet, and this makes online games unplayable. Anyone have a sollution for a newbie user?

    in a console do
    Code:
    sudo netstat -tunap
do you see any active connections?

This is with a game update running on WINE, a few FF tabs, and plex running.

Edit: I should note that, even with plex running in the background, before the upgrade, I didn't have this problem.

I think, that that's an "hidden" apt-update, running in the background - it seems that this is running multiple times (especially after using muon discover).
update-apt-xapi is running and apt is locked (/var/cache/apt/archives/lock) while network is in use - strange behaviour of kubuntu 13.10 (Never happened on 13.04)

Humm strange that it is running so frequently ,,,,,,I believe that is the update notifier checking for updates.

Yes I noticed that the updater seems to be running more frequently than in raring.

              Try this:
              Code:
              sudo apt-get install nethogs

              sudo nethogs [i]device[/i]
where device is the interface you want to monitor. eth0 is the default.
