Upgrade using official upgrade app results in kernel panic HELP

This is a continuation of a thread in the now closed Pre-release testing.

Having followed the advice of doctordruidphd and getting the grub-super disk, I now have the system booting again (YAY) on the latest 3.8 kernel.

I removed the 3.11 kernel using Muon but now need to work out how to bring the thing back to where it should be?

Any ideas of the best way to proceed from here?

    Ta

    Peter.

Now installing anything tries to re-run the update-initramfs script which fails every thime
    Code:
    Processing triggers for initramfs-tools ...
    update-initramfs: Generating /boot/initrd.img-3.8.0-31-generic
cp: cannot stat ‘/etc/fonts/conf.d/60-latin.conf’: No such file or directory
    E: /usr/share/initramfs-tools/hooks/plymouth failed with return 1.
    update-initramfs: failed for /boot/initrd.img-3.8.0-31-generic with 1.
    dpkg: error processing initramfs-tools (--configure):
subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1
    Processing triggers for libc-bin ...
No apport report written because MaxReports is reached already
                                                                  Errors were encountered while processing:
     initramfs-tools
    E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)
I think this is pretty comprehensively broken.
