I got it my phone had to be turned off and back on. Apparently its operating system got messed up. That's Adroid for you. Seems to take after Windows.

You could also try KDE Connect. Works well for transfering photos. Also, when you connect by USB, you must follow a certain procedure. I have 4.0.4 on my phone, and when I want to connect via USB, I go to Settings/More/USB utilities, and press on Connect storage to PC, and then have to wait until it says I can connect the USB cable. If you plug in the cable at the beginning, it won't work, at least on my phone.Comment
