    Screen Tearing on Video Playback

Around about the top portion of the screen, I get a nice video tear when I am playing back video. This happens in VLC, as well as Smplayer using VDPAU.

Everyone tells me that this is an Nvidia issue, but I have never had a solution for it. I am running two GTX660TI's in SLI mode. This has always been an issue with my previous GTX 480, and GTX 260.

I am not running compiz, just Kwin. Can anyone shed some light on this situation?

Essentially, it takes trial and error to find which setting(s) to tweak for your particular hardware.

The tearing could be the KDE setting issue - at here with the AMD/opensource drivers- the full screen video was tearing.

KDE system settings > Desktop Effects > Advanced tab

The 'Compositing' was on the 'Xrender' and the video was tearing.

      Other options to check/test:
      - Suspend desktop effects for fullscreen windows
      - OpenGL options 'Use VSync/Tearing Prevention'
