Simple question: is GNOME control center needed in Kubuntu?

I noticed yesterday, that three updates I see on the update tool, are gnome-control-center related.....do I really need that in a KDE system?

No, probably some program you installed pulled it in. You can uninstall it, but watch to see what will be removed in addition as a result.
