    Thanks Teunis,

    I did a
    Code:
    sudo apt-get install --reinstall tzdata
    followed by
    Code:
    $ sudo dpkg-reconfigure tzdata

    Current default time zone: 'America/Vancouver'
    Local time is now: Sat Aug 31 09:16:57 PDT 2013.
    Universal Time is now: Sat Aug 31 16:16:57 UTC 2013.
    but looks still the same in my clock's timezone dialog...

      And also in the time zone section of System Settings?
      Do you have a set of tzdata.* files in /var/lib/dpkg/info?

      The file tzdata.list gives some more information about where the missing list should be.

      And do you see this list in /usr/share/zoneinfo?
      On my sytem it's 69 items.
