Kubuntu hangs at login

So I've just installed Kubuntu 13.04 Raring Ringtail and it hangs on the login screen. I have reinstalled it 5 times and still have the same problem
I have included a picture so you can see where it hangs.

This is a complete system lockup and the cursor is immovable

Until a smarter answer comes along you could start up to the command line and do a full update and upgrade.

sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

Also, post some log files for us to take a look at.

* /var/log/syslog
* /var/log/Xorg.0.log
* If you're using KDM, then /var/log/kdm.log (must be root to read)
* If you're using LightDM, then $WHATEVER-IT-IS (you'll need to examine the directory structure of /var/log to locate, I don't remember)
