    CPU Fan Going Full Speed

I just installed 13.04 on my desktop on a dual boot. (It's on its own hard drive.) Everything works fine. I have no complains except that my CPU fan is going full bore and doesn't settle in over time. Not sure what to do or if it will correct itself once all the patches install.

Also, to install the proprietary drivers for my video card, will I be prompted to do that or is that something that I have to do manually?

Edit: Actually, it could be my video card that I hear going full blast.

Hi Mazate. First, I would install psensors and lmsensors to identify the real issue. That is, what's the CPU and GPU temps? That will provide you with the real problem. Proprietary drivers, especially nVidia will probably "fix" the max fan IF it's the GPU card. Also check your BIOS to see if it has something called smart cooling or quiet fan or something like that. It may be a matter of selecting whatever protocol your BIOS uses. I assume you have PWM fans with 3 or 4 wires connected to the mobo header pins. If they're just 2-pin fans connected to direct 12volt power, they will run at a constant speed. Again, I assume you know your system so this isn't an issue. HTH.

Actually it's the gpu fan. I've looked for instructions to install the proprietary amd gpu drivers in kubuntu without any luck.

Certainly there has to be a way to install the video card drivers in kubuntu?

I used the additional drivers application which made it fairly easy.

Or in case of a non-english menu:
              Code:
              jockey-kde
