    skype segfaults

Anyone have skype working? Here, it just crashes with a segmentation fault, no hint of why.
I do have multiarch enabled for i386.
The version I have is labeled 12.04, but apparently is coming from the raring partner archive.

Yeah, yeah, I know, but I need to stay in contact with someone who has windows.

Just want to find out if it's just crashing on my system, or if it's a general problem for now.

I was reading something about malware being presented via Skype and it reminded me I hadn't yet installed it.
Got the latest version from it's site and after installation I get the same error.
Reinstalled from the repo's and same result.

I was just searching the net and found 'a' solution:
    http://community.skype.com/t5/Linux/...4/td-p/1455552

I still had a previous .deb available (skype-ubuntu_4.0.0.8-1_amd64) and it works OK.
    Download it here:

The 'solution' didn't work; I suspect some bruhaha with i386.

Installing skype-ubuntu_4.0.0.8-1_amd64 from your link worked. It wanted some lib32c?? package, but it seems to be working properly now.

      Thanks.

PS if you do this don't forget to put a hold on skype so it won't automatically update (and break).

echo "skype hold" | sudo dpkg --set-selections

That's because Skype isn't written for 64-bit, even though the _amd64 package exists. Because it's a 32-bit app, it requires lib32c.

Looks like there are issues in Raring with the combination of Skype and Nvidia drivers.
