I have had so much trouble with Skype down the years but never more so than with Kubuntu. I have Ubuntu 12.10, Linux Mint 14 Cinnamon, Zorin 6 as well and Skype works on all of them albeit you have to twat around with the sound levels every time as I have a USB microphone. The trouble with Kubuntu is that the microphone doesn't work at all and the sound when you make a test call is very muddy. Anybody else had the same?

No. Have you checked your input settings in Phonon? Have you messed about with Alsamixer? Have you tried disabling Kmix's remember session setting? Kmix in 4.10 is a lot better and gives finer audio controls. -
Fwiw, tomp01, here's my thread on Skype, for 12.04. Basically, it involved messing around with Phonon, Alsamixer, as dmeyer suggests. There may be another tip or two in that thread, as I can't recall now the details of it ...

I have used a wireless headset before which allowed me to use the headset for calls (mic + speakers) and then at the same time I could play music through other external speakers. To me that's pretty awesome!Comment
