Slow login

Since the upgrade to 12.10 I've noticed it takes AGES to log in - from entering the password to seeing a desktop takes around 5 minutes, and another couple before the desktop is usable... Much slower than 12.04 was.

I'm stumped - any suggestions where I start diagnosing?

I've seen this with every KDE 4.9 based distro. There were huge speed ups everywhere with KDE 4.9 except login. Usual advice would be to remove your .kde but that’s excessive. Try something small and check if its some config.

Heck, KDE generally spends forever to log in though, should see improvements in 4.10.

Give this a go. Log out and then log back in.

mv ~/.kde/share/config/ ~/.kde/share/config_old

Any improvement?

Well what do you know - down to a few seconds from login to using the desktop.

I'll work my way through that directory and work out I need.
