    Upgrade from Percise results in bug!

    Please see Bug #1094465 on Launch pad. Now Kwallet keeps asking for password over and over again and attempting to apply daily updates fails:

    Remove the offending file:
    Code:
    sudo rm /usr/share/doc/libdrm2/changelog.Debian.gz
    Now you should be able to complete your update.

    I've marked your Launchpad bug as a duplicate of bug 1068165. Seems to be an issue for a number of folks.

      Nope didn't work. Still broken system! I'll check in a few hours to see if anyone posted a new suggestion.
      Just to remind users and devs that Ubuntu and its flavors have a long way to go to be as usr friendly as they should be.

          As you can see there is no output! I am wondering if it can be fixed or will I have to reinstall?! Maybe the upgrade script is bad. I thought that 12.10 would be debugged enough by now to use but maybe it still needs work.

            Can you be more specific...what is "still broken"? What errors do you see now? Almost all packaging problems can be fixed without reinstalling the entire OS, but we need more information.

              Kwallet keeps asking for the password about every 2 minutes and yes I give the correct one because if I make a typo it complains that it is incorrect, but if its correct then it disappears for about 2 minutes. Also wine 1.5.20 doesn’t work at all! Synaptic refuses to run says something about the repository name being bad. I am thinking maybe some key package is broken that is preventing other packages from fully working. That's just a guess.

                We can ignore the wallet issue for the moment. But without exact descriptions of sequences of steps and full error messages, we can't help you.

                        $ sudo apt-get -f install

                        Keep deleting conflicting files from old packages and restarting the above command until it outputs nothing. Then do:

                        $ sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

                        Repeat steps (1) and (2) until the step (2) completes successfully.

                            Navigate to the DefaultDistro line and change it to:

                              DefaultDistro "";
                            That is, remove the word precise. Save the file and exit the editor. And just for good measure, logout and login. Now see if updates work.

                              Can't edit file! When I try and I enter the password it just plays the error sound. I tried several times in case the password had a typo and yes I checked for caps lock.

                              I just tried using dolphine to search for /.synaptic/ and the folder no longer exists. in fact the only hidden folder in / is .config. There are no other hidden folders!
