what kind of wifi card do you have if you don't know what model computer do you have (if its prebuilt).

Did you check to see if your drivers were installed?

Look in "Additional Drivers" aka "Jockey"

Thanks to both of you - sorry I am late getting back here, but had to re-install kubuntu 12.10- Am having trouble typing here – won't let me – so am pasting from another source Have installed nvidia from “Additional Drivers” - Now it works OK, but re the WiFi – I do not have one installed – is there a special one for Linux or can I use one “off the shelf”.
Also Firefox won't run - On initial use, the following message appears:

what kind of wireless card do you have? if you don't see additional drivers for it chances are the driver is already installed . if you click on the network management widget do you see "wlan0" adaptor . if this is a laptop also check that there is not a hardware (or software ) switch that turns the card off (fn+f2 is common for laptops) .

run the command (use konsole) lshw and copy the section about network (mask your mac addresses) this will tell us about the device and let us know if it has a driver assigned to it .

about your disk issue please see how much space you have on your disk . if you run the command (again in konsole) df -h it will report how much disk space is used/ total you can paste that output here as well.

Am using a desktop

I don't have a wireless card – didn't know I needed one!

There is only NVIDIA drivers mentioned in “Additional Drivers”

On the network management widget I only see “eth0” adaptor
