    Touchpad configurator problem

I am using a Samsung RV415 notebook, with a Elantech touchpad. When I go to the touchpad configuration tool in System Settings, it gives me this error message:

"The version of the XInput extension installed on your system is too old. Version 2.0 was found, but at least version 2.0 is required.
If you want to be able to configure your touchpad, you have to upgrade your system to a recent release of the Xorg display server. This may likely involve a complete upgrade of your system. Please excuse this inconvenience, but there is no way to make touchpad configuration work on systems as old as yours."

Trying to use de Synaptics app in K menu > Applications > Utilities, it gives me the same error.

It is a known bug? Somebody else is having the same problem?
If you find a grammar error in my text, is because English is not my native language :-)

    Known bug,

    https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+s...s/+bug/1039261
    http://laptop.qa.ubuntu.com/qatracke...s/bugs/1039261

seems this bit of code is somewhat unmaintained now

Yesterday there was an update to synaptiks, version 0.8.1. This seems to have fixed the issue for me.

I have also encountered that error message and have now installed 12.10 final - the message has disappeared but what has just happened is that the synaptiks program minimised itself in the system tray for a short time and then disappeared. Ten minutes later, I tried it again to get the symptoms to repeat so that I could post - and it worked fine
