Itty bitty search box in KMail

I upgraded (er, wiped and rebuilt) my X1 the other day. It's now running a fresh clean Quantal install. I just noticed this weird bit in KMail:



The search box above the message list is very small, while the button to drop down the status list is very long. There appears to be no way to drag the spacer between the field and the button to make the sizes more reasonable.

Is there some way to control this, or is it a bug?

Hm, more weirdness. Disabling the Quick Search Bar with Ctrl+H makes the message list display very large margins:

Confirmed 2nd issue, don't have the first.

I updated the bug with more info about issue #1. A long category string that came from a Google calendar import appears to have wormed its way into my entire Akonadi category database.
