    Having problems with minitube & gmediafinder

    Hello one and all

    Neither of these applications have functioned for months! Even after the update for gmediafinder this morning.

    gmediafinder produces:
    gmediafinder
    Xlib.protocol.request.QueryExtension
    Traceback (most recent call last):
    File "/usr/bin/gmediafinder", line 23, in <module>
    app = gmediafinder.GsongFinder()
    File "/usr/lib/pymodules/python2.7/GmediaFinder/gmediafinder.py", line 255, in __init__
    self.player = Player(self)
    File "/usr/lib/pymodules/python2.7/GmediaFinder/lib/player/player_gui.py", line 123, in __init__
    self.load_gui_icons()
    File "/usr/lib/pymodules/python2.7/GmediaFinder/lib/player/player_gui.py", line 203, in load_gui_icons
    self.fullscreen_pix = fullscreen_pix.load_icon()
    AttributeError: 'NoneType' object has no attribute 'load_icon'

    and minitube prouces a horrible:

    Request finished but never started saving

    and hangs - or rather dumps a similar thing after clicking a request.

    this is a recent reinstall of 12.04 after the boot block went away and
    it proved easier to reload than fix.

    I am really not in good enough shape to debug these things myself. I thought
    a little patients would work; that turns out not to be the case. Oh me Oh my Oh gosh oh darn,

    Thank you for your time.

    I'm not familiar with the programs you mention, but I've had similar problems with others in the past. Most often it was caused by a cache file that just wouldn't go away. Often they have information or settings from the previous version that the newer one doesn't understand. I suggest trying to find if there is a cache file(s) for the programs squirreled away somewhere and deleting it/them. Many are under your user directory in the hidden folder "~/.cache". Other's may be in the root directory under /tmp or /var/tmp. I don't know if a cache is your problem, but if you've upgraded the software and all the dependencies have been installed too, it's a likely suspect. I've had enough problems in the past with caches that now when I have trouble with updated software it's the first thing I do, delete the cache. Perhaps 80% of the time that fixes the problem.

    If you have trouble locating the caches (assuming they exist) you can try looking for them as root in a terminal.

    'sudo locate gmediafinder' and 'sudo locate minitube' (that is provided they use the program name as or in the cache name). In the results look for anything that's in a cache folder or has "cache" in it's name and delete it. If it works, the program will start and just create a new, updated cache.
    Computers don't make mistakes. They only execute them.

            Hello folks - sorry I'm still here. Let me show you some stuff:

            First I will run minitube - search for "Seekers" and attempt to play "I'll never find another you" here is
            the command line output:

            [00007f5cc8000958] vdpau_avcodec generic error: Xlib is required for VDPAU

            [0000000002c64738] core input error: ES_OUT_RESET_PCR called

            It makes little sense that anything called "Xlib" is missing put who knows? So does anybody know how to fix this?

            thank for your time
