Can't upgrade from 10.04 LTS to 12.04 LTS

Weird thing is, it worked just fine on my notebook. After trying a variety of installers I tried the dist-upgrade c/l option in apt-get and here's what resulted:

    dep@dep-desktop:~$ sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
    Reading package lists... Done
    Building dependency tree
    Reading state information... Done
    Calculating upgrade... Done
The following packages have been kept back:
    imlib11 libart-2.0-2 libcaldav libcarddav libqt-perl libqt3-mt libwpd8c2a python-sip qca-tls
0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 9 not upgraded.
    dep@dep-desktop:~$

Anybody know a way around this?

dist-upgrade doesn't upgrade the OS -- it (intelligently) upgrades the installed applications.

If you want to upgrade the OS, then the command line syntax is:
    Code:
    sudo do-release-upgrade
Using Kubuntu Linux since March 23, 2007

      alas:

      Calculating the changes

      Could not calculate the upgrade

An unresolvable problem occurred while calculating the upgrade:
The package 'kubuntu-desktop-kde3' is marked for removal but it is in
      the removal blacklist.

      This can be caused by:
      * Upgrading to a pre-release version of Ubuntu
      * Running the current pre-release version of Ubuntu
      * Unofficial software packages not provided by Ubuntu

If none of this applies, then please report this bug using the
      command 'ubuntu-bug update-manager' in a terminal.

do you have this package pined so it dose not get changed?

        if so un pin it.

I don't think the package kubuntu-desktop-kde3 is a kubuntu package, Trinity maybe?

You will probably need to uninstall that package in order to proceed or ask them how to fix it. The package is a meta-package so it won't cause other packages to be removed.
