    panel icons for a better contrast

    Hi,

    I'm not sure if this is the correct thread, or if my question should go to "software support" so please kindly advise if it needs to be relocated.

    I've installed kubuntu 12.04 LTS on a netbook, with KDE backports so to get 4.11, it works great as usual
    I have set oxygen windows theme which provides a nice contrast when using notebook. Usually for desktop computers I also set the
    desktop them to oxygen (or androbit), but this is not enough efficient for nomads with notebooks, it needs a better contrast so
    I have set "Air for ultra portables".

    The problem I'm facing is this: the panel icons (scissor, speaker, usb, network ...) are white on white. Hardly seeing them.
    As long as the setting is a black panel it's ok, but for a grey panel I need a good looking icons with a nice contrast.
    And I have not found how to change the panel icons. All icons change i did have no effect on the panel icons.

    I also noticed in the desktop theme settings we can go to the details tab and at the bottom of the list there is a choice
    for the icons, it points to "air for ultra portable icons" by default. I think this icon setting is the one for the panel icons but KDE
    does not ship with any icon set black for a white/grey background panel so i'm stuck with my problem.

    I think the default panel icon set for Air and air for ultra portables should be changed because it really is not efficient, but
    for now how can I solve this problem manually ?

    Thanks in advance.

    The KDE is themeable - you could change those parts which you don't like.

    An example - plasma tray icons

    From the Kubuntu forums: http://www.kubuntuforums.net/showthr...-tray-icon-set
    --> KDE-look / KDE Icons / Krayscale (Plasma tray icons) : http://kde-look.org/content/show.php...content=133300

      Thanks, yes that's what I'm trying to achieve but I have not found a dark panel icons theme so far that could match
      with a light panel like Air for ultra portables I need to get something close to the contrast you can see on mac OSX
      panel. If someone knows of something approaching please drop me a line. So far most people I have seen using the
      air for ultra portables theme were somehow complaining about the panel icons, I hope this can be improved in future
      releases :-)

        Slow way

        Hope that someone does something.

        Fast way

        Opening the plasma icons with an image editor - Inkscape > Extensions > Color > Negative, saving

          Thank you so much for having took time to explain to me ! Really, I had no idea how to do it because I don't really have any graphics skills
          and I know nothing at inkscape. Thanks, I'm going to build me some nice dark icons. While at it, may I ask if there is a tutorial somewhere
          so I can save my new dark icons into a complete package and build an icon set, or is it I just have to zip the icons directory ?

            The KDE plasma tray icons are part of the plasma theming - the KDE TechBase has:

            Development/Tutorials/Plasma/Theme: http://techbase.kde.org/Development/...s/Plasma/Theme
            -> Development/Tutorials/Plasma/ThemeDetails: http://techbase.kde.org/Development/...a/ThemeDetails
            --> Theming Application Icons in the Systemtray: http://techbase.kde.org/Development/...the_Systemtray

            You could make partial plasma themes - as example the kubicle's Krayscale Plasma tray icons.

            You could mix plasma themes - search a plasma theme with dark icons and use the icons from the theme.

            Tray icons from the Helium plasma theme - http://kde-look.org/content/show.php...content=125471
