Problems in KDE 4.8.5 and 4.9.1

    Hi @all,

i have recently updated my Kubuntu 12.04.1 to KDE 4.8.5. Right after the update everything seemed to work just fine. But since then i am experiencing a massive increase in app crashes. KNetattach, Plasma-Desktop and others are crashing several times a day. Today i just realized that the oxygen theme lost all transparency. So i tried to switch to another theme. I have installed quite a bunch. There i noticed that all the manual installed themes were not deinstallable.

After that i made some sort of "mistake". I upgraded the system, not realising that the backports ppa was used. Now im at 4.9.1. The oxygen problem still exists here. Everything else seems fine so far. Except one thing: when i open a picture out of a picture folder in gwenview in fullscreen, all the previews on the top of the screen are quadratic and look very bad. Is there any way to adjust that to displaying the pictures in the right aspect ratio and better quality?

Is there any way to downgrade to 4.8.4 and prevent all kde updates from beeing shown to prevent an upgrade to 4.8.5?

    Greets,

About the new appearance of Gwenview: http://agateau.com/2012/08/08/whats-...-gwenview-2-9/
So the square previews are intentional.
On my systems they do look fine, the only thing I have my doubts about is the change to a different (darker) default style when selecting Full Screen.

When you want to limit the scope of an update it is often difficult to select the right time, when too early the repositories don't yet have all packages and it can cause breakage, when (much) later more items might be ready for update then you originally intended. For the last you have the option to lock certain packages to the version you want or you use the available preview and deselect the unwanted updates.

There is a way to downgrade (or ppa-purge) after removing a ppa.
A decent write up on it:

Personally I see nothing wrong with the newer KDE4.9.1 so why not stay updated.
