    can't launch anymore

    Hi,

I completely redid my sources.list file, updated and upgraded all that i was told to, rebooted and was thrown back onto the console only. I have tried to install NVIDIA drivers but keep getting errors about having the wrong kernel module loaded. I have tried several things so far but nothing has helped, how can I get my KDE back I'm wondering? I have a NVIDIA GeForce GT 520 installed.

    Thanks,
    Ron

explain in more detail what you mean by:

    1) "redid my sources.list file'
Why did you need to do this, and how did you do so?
    2) "all that i was told to"
Who, what, when where and why
    3) "tried to install NVIDIA drivers"
Which of the methods did you try?
    4) "I have tried several things so far"

Starting with 1) and maybe 2) will probably lead to helping with 3)

It may be difficult, but more complete error messages will help.

Because my apt-get wouldn't work at all anymore but always end in segmentation faults... I pulled up a website where I could select what kinds of sources I'd like to add and it compiled me a new sources.list (- still kept the original one as a copy)

      >2) "all that i was told to"
      > Who, what, when where and why
update & upgraded all packets and there was a whole bunch of....

      >3) "tried to install NVIDIA drivers"
      > Which of the methods did you try?
downloaded the drivers from the website and tried to get the ones from the repo (https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Bi...erHowto/Nvidia)

      >4) "I have tried several things so far"
      See above link

I understand, it basically told me that i've tried to install the wrong driver version as it would not align with my nvidia kernel module so i searched for that driver, installed and was able to start X up again but I'm wondering how i could/would update to a more recent nvidia driver anyways...?

      Thanks,

The more recent nVidia versions are to be found in the x-swat ppa:
        https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat/+archive/x-updates/

If you want to live on the edge go here:
        https://launchpad.net/~xorg-edgers/+archive/ppa
        and be prepared for trouble

It sounds like you now have an install that a package manager will have trouble with.
When you have a reasonable install I'd suggest to use one of the standard package manager like Muon or Synaptic.

For installing a proprietary video driver I strongly advise to use Jockey (jockey-kde).
