    No sound in Kubuntu 12.04

Hi all, I am pretty new to linux and I dont know much. Recently i have installed Kubuntu 12.04 in dual boot with windows 7.

The problem is there is no sound in kubuntu. i have installed vlc player and have also updated the pre installed dragon player but there is no sound whatsoever....while in windows the audio is working fine...
I have not installed any other software related to audio in kubuntu.
    Please help me....

First have you checked "Additional Drivers" for audio drivers?

Right click on audio (volume) icon in your task manager. Click "Audio Setup". Click the "Audio Hardware Setup" Tab, See if your Sound card is selected.

yes, i checked, installed the additional driver that it recommended, restarted, and there was a chime that made me hopeful, because it had never made that sound before...

however, when i rebooted, there was still no sound.

When you click "Audio Setup" Click the next tab "Audio hardware setup" Anything there look out of place? Is your card selected,

Does it say Speaker or headphone?
