No wirless

    No wirless

    I can't get my wireless to work! The keyboard switch is on but Network manager say's that wifi is unavalible. Konsole shows:

    I applied today's updates and some wlan bugs were fixed, so i thought id see if it was working now. As you can see its still not activating. Anyone got an idea to try?
    Just to remind users and devs that Ubuntu and its flavors have a long way to go to be as usr friendly as they should be.

    was it working ever or just quit for some reason?
    what wireless card is it ,,,, "lspci" will tell

      Ok I noticed it said Broadcom so i ran the additinal Drivers application and installed the Broadcom Driver. HPLIP can see my wireless printer but can not talk to it for printing! Photosmart-Plus-B209a-m. I wish my Linux wasn't so rusty! I guess that's what i get for leaving and using Winblow$ for about 3 years. lol
      I looked on the install disk for a ppd but no such luck. I wish HP would update HPLIP faster.

        Have you run the utility to install additional drivers? This is necessary for Broadcom wireless.

            Not slow, just missed it during the first read through I assume. I did too, until I went to post the instructions to install the Broadcom drivers, then I noticed it. It kinda got lost at the end of your "lspci" dump.
            Nowadays I'm mostly Mac, but...

              After I posted that last, i noticed the time of his post and began to wonder if he just missed reading that last part. Perhaps I should have used a different color or something so that last part would stand out more.

                Yes, in fact I did miss that! ... The time was 7:30ish AM Eastern time, I was in the Delta lounge in Atlanta, making my way home from Jacksonville

                  Folks, I cant see my Broadcom driver in there, in add:nal drivers?! My wireless is dead too. I upgraded to PP recently, and the driver is gone. Where is it, or how can I get a new one? Tks.

                  I want to get rid of this LAN cable lying across my floor...

                    dpkg -l|grep b43 shows
                    ii b43-fwcutter 1:015-9 Utility for extracting Broadcom 43xx firmware
                    ii firmware-b43-installer 1:015-9 Installer package for firmware for the b43 driver
                    ii firmware-b43legacy-installer 1:015-9 Installer package for firmware for the b43legacy driver

                    Whadda Im gonna do w/ those? Synaptic shows them all green and I've re-installed them ok, but I still cannot see them in Additional Drivers list. What am I missing here, or doing wrong?

                      O.K. I gave up,as far as Broadcom is concerned. My friend tried to fix the problem via ssh, for an hour or so, but no go. Whatever the fwcutter or -legasy was, it did not make the Wi-Fi to rise and shine. I made a web order to get me a USB 2.0 n/b/g 811 wifi adapter. Atheros is the key word here. Lets see, how it works, and configures.
