The monitor keeps losing it´s signal if I don´t move my mouse, or use the keyboard every 4 seconds. Sometimes it will work if there is an application running in the background, but other times it will still lose signal. I don´t have this problem in Windows 7, so I know it´s not the monitor (unless a driver problem). I have disabled the automatic screensaver and energy saver without any success of stopping the problem. Does anyone recommend trying something else? (besides uninstalling Kubuntu)

Do you mean after 5 seconds the monitor displays a "no signal" message? Or just goes blank? And does it come back at once if you move the mouse?

In my experience "no signal" is a different condition from simply blanking / powering off the display from the computer side (when I plug my monitor, showing "no signal", into my switched off computer, the monitor goes blank - stops displaying that message). Two of the pins must be connected (by design) inside the computer connector.

It's very odd if it's actually no signal. To the extent that I would suggest trying a different cable, even if it does work in Windows.I'd rather be locked out than locked in.

Let's try an experiment. Open a console and type: xset -dpms

Sit and wait. Does your monitor still turn its self off?Windows no longer obstruct my view.
Using Kubuntu Linux since March 23, 2007.

Sorry if my messages are a bit difficult to understand, but it´s hard to proofread them when the monitor keeps losing signal. Basically, my problem is that the monitor will act as if the computer is turned off (after 4-6 seconds of idle) and display a no signal message. If you move the mouse or press a key on the keyboard, it will restart searching (I am not using the hdmi ports) and return the signal.

 Besides what Snowhog wrote,

 xset dpms 32000 32000 32000
 xset s noblank
 xset -dpms

will keep your screen active for 32000 seconds, IF it is simply blanking because dpms is set by default to too low a value."A nation that is afraid to let its people judge the truth and falsehood in an open market is a nation that is afraid of its people.”
