External VGA not working after update to 12.04

I've got a Toshiba Portege R705 and a GatewayFPD2185W that got along great until 12.04.

Now when I connect the monitor to the laptop, my resolution is automatically degraded down to 1024x 860 from the usual 1366x768 on both monitors.

Assuming I need to download new drivers has anyone done this already ?

    thanks,
    R

this may depend on what GPU you have .
    post the output of
    Code:
    lspci | grep VGA
I do know hear with the
Intel Corporation Core Processor Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 02)
if I boot the laptop with the VGA or HDMI attached it will give me strange resolutions (the first it finds that will "clone" on both) BUT if I boot the laptop then connect the external display and run the setup as "above" the laptop display I can set the resolution I want !!

      I get

"00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Core Processor Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 02)"

I have the same problem if I attach the monitor after boot.

I did test it with HDMI and actually had no problem getting the 1366 resolution.

Did you install any video codecs or special drivers for your monitor ?
