    How do I bring back life to my bluetooth dongle?

    I have a generic "hama" bluetooth dongle which I use to remotely control pc using phone as a remote controler. Cute for whatching videos, listening to music etc. Now in Precise, it is not working anymore. The lsusb command shows that it couldn't be opened(see below) hciconfig that it is down(at the end of the post). Any ideas what can I do to "open" it, make it work(apart from throwing it through the window )?

    I cannot help you with the BT device issue, I'm having exactly the same trouble with a Wifi dongle x-D But if you run the lsusb command as administrator it won't complain about not being able to open the device :-) So I'm afraid the problem is somewhere else.

      That looks like a big hint about the nature of the problem. Devices plugged into the USB bus are normally user-space permissions, but it looks like the BT dongle has been taken over by root, for some reason.

        Thanks for your replies, Tonyina and dibl, sorry for late reply.

        In addition to your thoughts on the topic, I have read many references pointing to the conclusion that, in fact, the issue is related with kernel regression. Whatever I tried didn't seem to work with this hama dongle and as this is also, almost, 6 years old rig and I'm still reluctant to throw it into the garbage, I decided to stick with Oneiric as it is running marvelously on this hardware and thereby solve the problem.
