GoogleEarth install still NO JOY in Precise

Very strange, I never had any problem installing Google Earth on my copy of Ubuntu 10.04 x64 nor did I have to install the sheer number of dependencies that you listed (none, in fact!) However, I didn't try to install it from .deb, though. I installed Medibuntu and it was included as part of its software offerings, which I retrieved through Synaptic.

Perhaps you already have the ia32 libs installed. What's the output of

dpkg --list | grep ia32

I have Medibuntu installed too, but Googleearth is not in the Precise list:http://packages.medibuntu.org/precise/index.html

And, I do not have any ia32 files on my system. That's why the deb package wants to install several hundred additional packages, which also include a ton of GTK+ files, of which I have a minimum number.

Yes. I used to use it before I switched to VirtualBox.

However, SteveRiley, one of our admins, says the latest version for Linux integrates so nicely that apps in the guest can be run as if they are native to the host. There's a thread about the topic. Search will locate it.
