    No Plymouth screens after recent updates

    I no longer see Plymouth screens on boot and shutdown after recent updates were applied. Anyone else (not) seeing this?

    It turns out "quiet splash" mysteriously went missing from my grub file. History shows that I am somehow implicated in this.

      Hmm, my grub still has the 'quiet splash' yet there's no Plymouth...

      I have two parallel installs of 12.04, both are only a few days old and the biggest difference is probably that one is on ext4, the other on btrfs.
      On boot one shows the Plymouth splash, the other doesn't.

      As a PS, there used to be a program called startupmanager, handy for those of us who are not well versed in the CLI but it does not appear in the 12.04 repo's.

        If you include those options in /etc/default/grub as:

        GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash"

        and then run:
        Code:
        sudo update-grup2
        You won't have to worry about the options 'going missing' again, unless, on an update, the /etc/default/grub file is included, but even then, you are prompted as to whether or not you want to replace or keep your existing file. I always keep, as any system file I've modified I want to keep.
        Windows no longer obstruct my view.

          I'm certain I foolishly omitted "quiet splash" from my grub config after manually editing it so look not at this experience my friend!
