Firefox and Thunderbird Black Background
When I reboot, login and launch FF and TB, they work great. Background is the intended color. When I logoff and re-login, background changes to black both on FF and Thurderbird eventhough the background_color is #fffff. I've upgraded the Nvidia Video Driver to the latest for my 8500 GT. Any ideas?

Does it persist if you restart the computer (instead of just logging out)? I had the same problem with gvim, but a restart fixed the problem. I'm hoping I won't see it again.Registered Linux User: #281828 | Kubuntu User: #22280

Another "me too" reply. My current workaround is to start Nvidia Settings, which is also mainly black. As I click on things inside the Nvidia Settings and move the mouse around, the various elements start displaying correctly. Once I quit Nvidia Settings, Thunderbird and Firefox will also "light up" and display correctly. I don't even need to restart TB or FF; if either is on screen, it is magically fixed as soon as I quit Nvidia Settings.Comment

FWIW, I noticed the problem, and stumbled on exactly this same work-around, when I had my T410 with nVidia graphics. I don't have that laptop anymore, but it's truly curious that there is some consistency here, in both the problem and the work-around.Originally posted by ronw View PostComment

Are you using KDM? I've had a similar or the same problem where GUI elements in applications across the board (at least GTK and some Qt) would be black until moused over. This would happen after every logout-and-relogin, in both KDE and GNOME 3. Switching to LightDM "fixed" it. But I'd rather be using KDM until LightDM gets more polished.Comment

The #ffff should be the appropriate length. Using both the beta version of FF and TB. Opened a bugzilla report with Monzilla. Just upgraded to the latest nvidia drivers. Reboot will fix it; however, logoff and logon back on will cause the issue to re-appear.Comment

No, it shouldn't. Color codes using the # syntax are always six characters, not five as you originally posted. bra|10n was merely pointing out that you might have missed typing the sixth f.Windows no longer obstruct my view.

For Firefox and Thunderbird ? you could try locking the prefs.js file forcing a 'vanilla' window to see if that helps to shed some light on the possible cause. Just a thought.

I suspect this is a gtk related problem.
I noticed that when it happened, starting Libreoffice and then quitting it fixed it.
And for some reason after that, it never came back.
