DVDs no sound with VLC but Dragon Player works

So when I go to watch a movie on DVD, I have no sound with VLC (pretty picture tho). My sound does work and something called dragon player will play the DVD just fine. However I'd like to figure out how to make VLC work.

I have installed kubuntu-restricted-extras and followed the instructions at https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Re...ts/PlayingDVDs

    What else can I do?

    Thanks in advance.

Don't know if it applies to your situation, but my daughter had no sound on her openSUSE desktop with VLC. I installed vlc-plugin-pulse, and the sound started working. It is in the Ubuntu repos also.

You might also check in VLC tools/preferences/audio/ output module to ensure that the correct option is selected. Alsa ought to work but pulse may need the plugin that 67GTA refers to.
