How can I retrieve files from Trash? And if I deleted a directory, is it possible to retrieve that directory as a unit? I've found lots of posts about emptying the trash, but that's not what I need!!

In Dolphin's Places pane, click the Trash folder. Its contents will appear in Dolphin's main pane. To restore any item -- either an individual file or an entire directory -- right-click it. A menu will appear, from which you can select Restore. And there you go. -

And if you should happen to Empty Trash ... don't touch anything (on that drive) and try to get it back in these ways:
