Like I said, just a personal opinion. If it works well for you, that's great 
(It works for me, too...but not a pleasure to use)
My main gripe with it is that it's rather big, monolithic and slow, and that's one of those things that is hard to fix (not a big problem with a modern computer, I'll admit). The UI is also a bit cumbersome.
About the UI: Yes, it is not what you would expect on a KDE install, but LibreOffice is not specially made for KDE, is it?
I had the same with Evolution. After having it used on Gnome it now looks terrible on KDE, so I switched to Thunderbird.
Do you run the latest Java. This can speed up things since LO can use Java. It makes it snappier.

... I can now use a procmail lockfile to keep Akonadi from freaking out every time postfix deposits new mail in the /var/mail mbox. I don't know if that's how it's supposed to work, but ok. But it still doesn't properly delete messages from that resource -- though it pops up umpteen notifications about unreadable messages when I try to view the seemingly undeleted messages. Back to Thunderbird... for now.
