Amarok sputters and skips on two computer.

Upgraded desktop to 11.10 and clean install 11.10 to notebook this weekend.

I've noticed on both computers (64-bit, dual core 4 GB RAM) that Amarok will sputter and skip sometimes. It really gets bad if there is any sort of disk access, like moving files around.

The music playing has never had a problem in previous versions, so I know they are ripped correctly.

    Backend is GSstreamer vs 4.5.1

Notebook uses defauly internal audo, Desktop is Soundblaster (will verify exact model is required).

    Suggestions?

    This may help:

Install phonon-backend-vlc and set it as preferred over GStreamer in the multimedia setup.

That helped me, but I still experience a brief audio "timeout" every 3 minutes or more often that is quite annoying. Because there appears to be no way to change the buffer setting in Amarok, I'm using SMPlayer instead.

I've searched repeatedly for a solution to the Amarok buffer problem and have found no answer. The threads I find are from Amarok 1.4 in 2007 or so, and things have changed since then.
