no sound after upgrade to 11.04 and 11.11

I ran Kubuntu 10.04 without problems on my Lenovo 3000 N100 laptop until i upgraded today to Kubuntu 11.04 (with an intermediate upgrade to 10.11, which i didn't actually use). Then i noticed that my sound didn't work anymore, so i upgraded to 11.11. Now i still don't have any sound. Removing all ".pulse" files didn't seem to help me at all.

When i go into system settings (i'm guessing on names, because my interface is in Dutch) and look at the Phonon settings, there are several entries for "HDA Intel, ALC861 VD Analogue".

Any ideas? This is so frustrating.

If it's any help, i created a new user and logged in as him. Sound still didn't work.

Hello. I would go to the terminal and
      Code:
      sudo alsamixer
and make sure your volume levels are turned up in alsa. If they were not, problem solved. If not, we can troubleshoot from there.
