So i installed kubuntu 11.10 64bit cd and chose to install updates and extras from the install. everything runs great even better then fedora did on this machine, except one thing when i try and change the digital vibrance or image sharpining through the nvidia x server settings UI it will just close it. no clue why this is going on but on fedora it would allow me to set these. i am running a nvidia 7600gt pci-x GPU with driver NVIDIA accelerated graphics driver (version 173).

You might try a newer graphics driver. The X-Swat PPA contains stable upstream releases of drivers and X.Org.
