That particular screen is due to a bug in Muon not always shown so it waits forever.
By using Synaptic or a terminal you will avoid this problem.
What this probably was is the dpkg hang bug during long installations that was fixed in 1.2.3. Debconf prompts are handled just fine.

I had the same issue with updating only mine made it to an astoundingly frustrating 94%. I tried the --configure -a command and got a ton of dependancy errors. Also, the same when I used Install -f.

Now, that's just what I was looking for. I was so happy that finally Kubuntu could handle my wireless settings, which no KDE-centric distro could do flawless a few years back, and got really enraged when after installation the full update went limp and froze. As it still only is an installation inside Windows 7 with Wubi, I took chances and installed and updated again, and again, with similar results. Update just froze somewhere between 43% and 48%, with different packages displayed each time. Finally, I switched over to Ubuntu and decided to give Unity a try, but it's definitely not what I was looking for when I looked for an alternative to Windows. As the update just went fine on Unity, I blamed the KDE/Wubi-configuration. Good to know it's "just" the update manager that I have not even heard of before (I missed roughly two years of Linux...).

So, I will re-install Kubuntu again and will do the update via console. Thank you for bringing me back to the blue gears :-D
