    Re: freeze in shutdown

A few days ago I noticed a similar (the same?) problem but with the last updates the problem has gone away.
In my case it wasn't so much a crash but a complete refusal to acknowledge the shutdown button.

    As so often the command:
    Code:
    sudo shutdown -h now
    Did the trick.

In case of a serious hang up you have the option of Magic Keys:
    Press ALT + SYSRQ and then slowly, one after the other R E I S U B.

Hope your next update fixes it.

      Re: freeze in shutdown

      I updated 2 Desktops from 11.04 to 11.10.

Both systems will not shut down via the dialogs in KDE.

      They will though reboot though.

Did try through the System Settings/Login Screen to change Shutdown there between /sbin/ halt and sbin/shutdown with the same results.

Both Desktops are AMD Processors. One has Nvidia, one has Diamond Stealth Radeon for Graphics.

I suppose the command sudo shutdown -h now will have to do until the patches arrive.

My laptop, An Acer, has AMD and ATI, and it will shutdown! Go figure?

I have this shutdown problem on my main desktop which has an amd processor with nvidia chipset and graphics.

However I have a laptop and netbook, both with standard intel hardware, and they are both fine.
