Screen Resolution Problem

I would like to change my screen res on my second mon but it wont go beyond 1024 and I know for a fact it goes up to 1280

What graphics card and drivers are you using?

geforce 8400 desktop box, was using nvidia driver but with that I would lose a mon - so I dumped it and now not sure what driver I am using but I have both mons back

Try installing the nvidia drivers again and run "kdesudo nvidia-settings" to configure them, you should be able to select the correct resolution as well as enable multi monitors (twinview mode works the best).
