Upgrade to KDE 4.7.2 = cannot start consolekit session

On my Laptop (see below) I upgraded from 11.04 to 11.10 last night and all went well.

I then updraded to KDE 4.7.2 and thought it went well as well.

Upon booting this morning it takes a long while but I get to the login screen after login I get:
    Cannot start Consolkit session.

I get a plasma desktop failure message and then KDM hangs with a black screen.

    I tried (ctrl+alt+F1):
    Code:
    sudo dpkg --configure -a
    but that didn't help.
    Any one with an idea?

So you mean to say you did get into a terminal and try the command mentioned?
If so, how about doing a reinstall of consolekit, libck-connector and the libpam-ck-connector dewbs?

Hopefully you can get it hooked up via Ethernet.
