Xsane crashes when starting Espon V600 scanner

(Some might have read this in the 11.04/hardware forum)

I have an Epson V600 scanner and installed sane and the avasys.jp drivers.
This makes it available in Linux using xsane or the Avasys application ImageScan! for Linux.
I also installed the scanner software VueScan from Hamrick.com

All worked well until 2-3 days ago, now xsane crashes and Vuescan complains the avasys drivers are not installed.
Yet I can still run the scanner with ImageScan! and the KDE application Acquire Images.

Anyone else here that uses this or a similar scanner?

Re: Xsane crashes when starting Espon V600 scanner

I have a v300, thought I'd better give it a try after reading this.

Xsane didn't crash, but the scans were garbage. Removed and reloaded latest iscan and esci-whatever, now works fine.

Only problem is the gui for xsane is a little messed up, the sliders don't look right, a few other things. I think this is related to the more general problems I'm having with gtk stuff, not specifically xsane.

So reloading the avasys stuff fixed it here. This is 64-bit, by the way.

I've just installed the avasys iscan stuff on another computer with 64bit 11.10 and experience the same problem, xsane crashes but AquireImages and ImageScan ! for Linux work fine.

Hmm. Maybe try moving ~/.sane out of the way.

Also try running xsane from the command line & see if it gives you any useful error messages.

I wonder if it could be the libltdl3 problem. I had to install the libltdl3 package from lenny to make it work. Known problem with avasys.

First I tried with libltdl3 installed but that made no difference.
Renaming .sane made xsane work fine!
The new .sane had one difference, the reference to another scanner was missing...

But VueScan is still failing, when executed from the console with this error:
          Code:
          (vuescan:13679): LIBDBUSMENU-GTK-CRITICAL **: watch_submenu: assertion `GTK_IS_MENU_SHELL(menu)' failed
../src/gtk/menu.cpp(52): assert "win" failed in DoCommonMenuCallbackCode(): event for a menu without associated window?
I might want to make a report with Hamrick.com

Yeah, I'm willing to bet it's the gtk2/gtk3 mess.
A bug report will at least call their attention to it.

            Glad xsane is working.
