Kate/Kile 'Alt Gr + 3' does not work to produce '^'

    Hi all!

I have just installed Kubuntu 11.04. 64-bit for the first time.

The problem I cannot resolve is the following. In Kile/Kate editor pressing 'Alt Gr + 3' combination does not produce the usual '^' symbol, neither does 'Alt Gr + 2' produce 'ˇ'. I can get '~' with 'Alt Gr + 1' and similar, although need to press '1'-key two times.
It works fine in other applications, so I guess the problem is connected with Kate editor.
    - using Slovenian keyboard layout
    - have deleted kate and kile settings folders without effect
    - have checked if 'Alt Gr + 3' is assigned a shortcut - it is not

    Any ideas?

    Thanks

It has likely something to do with the Slovenian keyboard.
Is it this one you use?

When I check in the System Settings/ Input Devices/ Layouts I see there's only one type of Slovenian keyboard in KDE.

Does the same problem not exist in for example the konsole or Libre Office/

The problem is also in konsole, but not in Libre Office - with the same font: Liberation Mono.

I have (partially) resolved the problem:
        1. Alt Gr + 3 is the code that produces a hat over the next character typed.
        2. To produce '^' I can use Alt Gr + M.

Haven't checked the slovenian layouts, but the AltGr+number characters are likely configured as "dead-keys" (the resulting character depends on the next character typed), examples "AltGr+3" followed by "space" produces "^" and AltGr+3 followed by "e" produces "ê".
