Does anyone know how to do this? Mac OS X has this sort of behavior - when in column view, single click on a folder displays the contents of the folder in a new column where as to open a file, the user must double click it.

To the best of my knowledge, this is not possible. In System Settings > Input Devices > Mouse > Icons the choice is double-click to open files and folders and double-click to open files and folders.Slava Ukraini! πΊπ¦
