since a week i am getting white noise + ( the stream music / video sound )
while using vlc.. is anyone else facing the same problem?
i searched i bit.. ubuntu natty also has same problem it seems..
but that is because of pulse audio and they claim it goes when switched to alsa.

Yeah I’ve had nothing but trouble with pulseaudio. Pulseaudio and gstreamer have a bad habit of locking the audio device, and this has become worse in natty due to kded4/notification bug. So I recommend everyone using natty to remove pulseaudio, install phonon xine backend:
    Code:
    sudo apt-get install phonon-backend-xine
and set it as prefer backend:
    Code:
    kcmshell4 kcm_phonon

Well, I haven't experienced any problems with Pulseaudio and the Phonon Gstreamer Backend. All sound works perfectly, in all applications, including DVD audio and CD Audio, on my laptop.

          and here is the solution:
          open vlc>Tools>Preferences>Audio>Output Module>change to ALSA

Thanks guys. That fixed my VLC also.

Last week VLC had a lot of white noise. Today I tried it again before remove PulseAudio. The noise wasn't there but after a few minutes CPU went to 100%, sound stopped, VLC crashed after gobbling most of SWAP.

I then removed PulseAudio as ubuntuku suggested. VLC has been working fine now for several hours.

I don't use the now nefarious skype and can't think of any other reason to dog the system with PulseAudio.

            Thanks.
            Ken.
