Re: kpackakit not working (I did check the solution above, still not working)

I must appologize!! The commands I gave you were syntactically wrong. I'm afraid that they deleted all the files in your users /home directory. This is not a good thing. Please verify. In the console, type:
    Code:
    ls -la
This command lists (displays) all the files in the current working directory (your /home directory). You should see files that begin with a period. If you don't, then my fears are confirmed.

    Please let me know.

There's a space between ls and -la

Re: kpackakit not working (I did check the solution above, still not working)

Whew. Okay, the files are there.

So, now, let's take care of your pesky problem - correctly, and safely.

            Open a console and type:
            Code:
            cd /var/lib/apt/lists
            Then type:
            Code:
            pwd
            You should see:
            /var/lib/apt/lists
IF YOU DO NOT SEE THIS, STOP! DO NOT PROCEDE.

If you do see /var/lib/apt/lists then type:
            Code:
            sudo rm *
            Then type:
            Code:
            cd partial
            You should see:
            /var/lib/apt/lists/partial
IF YOU DO NOT SEE THIS, STOP! DO NOT PROCEDE.

If you do see /var/lib/apt/lists/partial then type:
            Code:
            sudo rm *
            Finally, type:
            Code:
            cd
You will be back in your user /home directory. Now we update the package cache and run the dist-upgrade. Type:
            Code:
            sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
Please tell me that you no longer get the troublesum error, and that the process completes 'as it should.'

Thank you for your help, that fixed the problem. So just one question, how this happened? and what can I do in the future to avoid the same problem?
              Thank you again.

Re: kpackakit not working (I did check the solution above, still not working)

You are very welcome. I'm extremely happy that my error in command syntax didn't do any harm. I've been at this for some time, and I should have caught my mistake before I posted. Oh well. We are all human, and we all make mistakes.

As to how those entries in your sources.list got malformed, I've no idea. Gremlins? Thugs from Redmond, WA? No matter, we got you back into the game.
