    Re: 11.04 hangs on reboot/shutdown

I had the issue. I switch the video driver from NVIDIA (version 173) to the NVIDIA driver [Recommended] and that fixed my problem. Don't know if you have an NVIDIA card or not. I haven't read all these posts closely but only skimmed over them.

    Hope this helps...

I don't have NVIDIA. I have Intel graphics card.
Thanks for advice, but that's not for me.

        Re: 11.04 hangs on reboot/shutdown

Just a thought. I remember some time back having a similar issue - it would take a very long time to shut down and appeared to have hung in the meantime. The cause was weird, it was the shutdown sound on logout. It seemed the system would not shut down until the sound had run its course. Go into system settings /application and system notifications/ and under event source select kde workspace.

select logout. If a sound is allocated to that event uncheck the "play a sound" box. Hit apply then close off system settings. Then try shutting down via the right click menu. Any improvement?

          I checked. No improvement.
I am convinced this is a CIFS issue. I saw message which appears after 5 minutes of waiting - it is about timeout. Soon after that system is down.

From what you say it indeed seems to be a known problem

            https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+s...ux/+bug/768506

This appears to be a duplicate of the one listed in your earlier thread. Can I suggest you add your name to the bug report if you haven't already?

You are right, that is exactly the error I have.
There are already 5 people affected. I am not registered at launchpad, so I don't know how add myself to the list. I have OpenID account which they offer for Launchpad accounts, but I see no option to use it there.

BTW, there is already a solution in #9, I am going to test it now.

                Solution does not work.
I added a couple of lines before umount: to create a file and put a text into it. This part works. It means system hangs up exactly at the moment of umount. Then, this is kernel issue, not script.
